sucrose density gradients, indicated that tetracycline binds to 30S (Svedburg) ribosomal subunits (R. H. Connamacher and H. G. Mandel, Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 20:98, 1965). Further analysis by the same technique demonstrated that the antibiotic binds not only to the 30S subunit but also to the 50S subunit of E. coli ribosomes (L. E. Day, J. Bacteriol 91:1917, 1966). J.
